About Windsor Great Park

Windsor Great Park spans approximately 5,000 acres southwest of London, England, encompassing land in the counties of Berkshire and Surrey. Established as a royal hunting park by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has evolved into a large landscaped park open to the public, retaining its historical and ecological significance. The park's geography includes expansive woodlands, formal gardens, parkland, lakes, and rolling meadows. It is home to the iconic Long Walk, a three-mile avenue framed by tall horse chestnut trees, which leads to Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British monarch. Ecologically, the park hosts a variety of native species, including ancient oak and beech trees, deer herds such as the Windsor deer park, and a range of birdlife, making it a popular location for wildlife watchers. Visitors can enjoy numerous walking and cycling trails, picnic spots, and seasonal events like horse shows and autumn fairs. Notable landmarks within the park include the Savill Garden, renowned for its diverse plant collections and seasonal blooms, and the Valley Gardens with its vibrant rhododendrons and azaleas. The park’s combination of natural beauty, rich history, and royal heritage makes it a unique destination for outdoor enthusiasts and cultural visitors alike.
